Product Overview
Visit WebsiteFreeFrame is an open-source media review and approval platform that may be self-hosted, serving as a collaborative substitute for Frame.io designed for production companies and creative teams. It provides precise frame-by-frame evaluations for video, image, and audio materials, featuring time-stamped comments, illustrative annotations, and organized approval processes, all operating on your own infrastructure to ensure your media remains under your control.
FreeFrame consolidates all assets, comment discussions, and versions inside a single, structured workspace, encompassing video delivered via HLS adaptive playback and waveform-oriented audio evaluations. Threaded discussions, tags, responses, and instantaneous notifications ensure that your entire team and external clients remain coordinated without the need to change platforms.
How to use?
Self-host FreeFrame with Docker Compose on any server or cloud VM, or spin it up locally to explore. Upload your video, image, or audio assets, organize them into projects and folders, and invite your team with role-based permissions at the org, team, or project level.
Reviewers leave frame-accurate, time-coded comments and drawing annotations directly on the asset, track approval status per reviewer, and compare versions side-by-side as new cuts come in. When it's time to bring notes back into your edit, export time-coded comments as timeline markers for DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or Premiere Pro. Need outside feedback? Share a password-protected, expiring link; clients and collaborators can comment as guests with no account required.
For who it is?
FreeFrame is built for production houses, post-production teams, and creative studios who need frame-accurate review without handing their media to a third party. It's for teams who want the collaborative power of Frame.io, but self-hosted, open-source, and fully in their control.
