7. Cookies
Our website does not collect any information about you except what is contained in cookies. Cookies are stored on your device, including a mobile device, according to the preferences you set in our cookie consent manager.
What is a cookie? A cookie is a small text file stored on your system or phone to perform functions such as remembering your preferences, so that we can deliver a better experience.
What do we store? Before you choose, we set nothing at all. Your decision is saved in a single first-party cookie, tb_consent, for 182 days. It holds only the version of the notice you saw, which categories you allowed, the time you chose, a random short id, and whether you accepted all, rejected all or saved custom choices. It contains no name, email, IP address, device id or browsing history, and nothing is written to localStorage, sessionStorage, or to our servers.
Here is how we use cookies:
- Required cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be turned off. This is the consent cookie itself (tb_consent).
- Analytics cookies help us understand the traffic source and user behaviour. These are Google Analytics 4 (_ga and _ga_*, both kept for 2 years), loaded only after you allow this category. With it allowed, the following is collected and sent to Google:
- a pseudonymous client id that identifies the browser, not you;
- the page URL, page title and referrer of each page you view;
- time on page (recorded at 30 seconds, 1, 2 and 5 minutes), scroll depth, and which sections of a page you reach;
- screen resolution, language, and your browser, operating system and device type;
- an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google states it does not log or store the IP itself, and we run with IP anonymisation, ad-data redaction and URL pass-through disabled.
- Performance cookies collect information about how our website performs — page responsiveness, loading times, and any technical issues — so that we can optimise it. This category sets no cookies at all: it reports Core Web Vitals measured by your browser (largest and first contentful paint, time to first byte, interaction to next paint, cumulative layout shift) together with the path of the page they came from, and Vercel Speed Insights records the same timings per route. They are numbers about the page, not about you, and Vercel Speed Insights sets no cookie either.
- Targeting cookies enable us to build a profile of your interests and show you personalised ads. If you opt out, we will not use targeting cookies for personalised advertising. We do not currently set any.
How can you manage cookies? Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time, and turning a category off deletes the cookies belonging to it. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we record a rejection automatically and do not show the banner.
Separately from cookies, and not covered by the banner: like any website, our hosting provider records each request in server access logs, including your IP address, browser user agent and the URL you requested. That is processed on the basis of legitimate interest, to keep the site secure and available.
